David K. Overstreet practiced law with Miller, Tracy, Braun & Wilson, Ltd of Monticello, Illinois, beginning in 1991, he later practiced with the Law Office of Peter G. Angelos of Knoxville, Tennessee. Between 1995 and 2007, Overstreet practiced with Mitchell, Neubauer, Shaw & Hanson, P.C., Neubauer, Hanson & Overstreet, P.C., and Neubauer & Overstreet, P.C. of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He was appointed to the Second Judicial Circuit Court in 2007, which he won election to in 2008, and retained in 2014. He was assigned to the Fifth District Appellate Court in 2017 and won election to that seat in 2018. In 2020, as a candidate from the Fifth Judicial District, Overstreet won election to the Illinois Supreme Court.
